Update
We at DR Motorsports are undergoing some changes. Rob Barrie is currently on the look for a B-Modified for the 2012 season, and Dalton Johnson was on the look for a Hobby Stock for the 2012 season, but is now thinking about buying a 600cc Micro Sprint for the 2012 campaign. Meanwhile, Dalton and Rob have been working together to get the DR Motorsports Go Kart running at local tracks, with their last stop being at Plessis Motor Speedway in Hartley Iowa on September 10th. "running in hotlaps i had the tires all aired up thinking the track would be nice and tacky, turns out it was slicker than butter out there, then to make matters worse, the top of the sparkplug came unscrewed so the motor was cutting out." Says Johnson about their hotlaps venture. Luckily they had another plug in the gear box and awapped them. Rob had this to say, "It definatly looked like he didnt have the pedal to the floor in hot laps, the motor only revved up to about 4400 RPM, when he came in we realized that the throttle cable wasnt allowing him to open the butterfiles up all the way in the carb with the way it was set up." the nice folks at Plessis had no problem helping the team figure out a solution to the problem. "They told us to turn the cable mount on the motor backwards, and that did the trick!" Says Johnson. In the first heat, Johnson was able to hold on to a third place finish. He had this to say, "It was like racing on an ice skating rink, the kart didnt have any forward drive off the corner." For the next heat race, Johnson threw everything he had into the kart. "we were about 50 pounds overweight, so we unbolted all of the weight from the left side of the kart and left the right side weight, and we also had 4 pounds of air in all the tires but the left rear hoping that we would get some traction." Says Johnson. He again held on to finish 3rd in the second heat race. "we noticed that everyone was cleaning their tires and puttin tire prep on to make them sitcky, the only thing we had at our disposal was mountain dew, so, figuring that it would get the tires sitcky for the main, we rubbed it on the tires." chuckles Johnson. " while we were pushing the kart up to staging, i noticed that all of the grass had stuck to the tires! Our plan had worked!" exclaimes Barrie. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike the team again at the start of the A main. "i went out there and at the green i kept up with them, i was thinking 'man, i think we got a shot!' but going into corner one on the first lap the throttle pedal went to the floor, but the engine slowed, i looked over and the throttle cable had broken, ending our night." explains Johnson. The team was happy with their result though. "We found out that here, we can at least keep up with these guys, even with a motor that has sat for 4 years. If we had a fresh pounder we could do some damage!" says Barrie. The team has ironed out the kinks in the program and plans to run at Plessis Motor Speedway in Hartley Iowa again on October 1st for sure, but there may be an appearance on a sunday afternoon at I-90 Karting Speedway in Blue Earth MN on September 25th as well. We will keep you updated as to what our plans might be for the rest of the season.
New Sponsorship
We at DR Motorsports are currently making a deal with the Trojan Textiles Class at Worthington High School to outfit our Car and Team with a new look. Look for more news in the upcoming week to see how much this deal progresses.
Car Figured Out!!
Well... We have figured out the situation with the car and will be racing sunday night at the Nobles County Speedway. Turns out that we have sheared the pin out of the distributor gear and shattered half the gear itself. Anyhow, we will be at the nobles county speedway Tomorrow night.
First Night = Bad Luck
Well... Starting off with the heat race Dalton Johnson still wasn't feeling up to par with the cat yet. "I went out for hotlaps and the track was just so greasy I couldn't get a feel for the car yet. During the heat race I started to feel out the steering for the car and it seems that it takes a full turn to make what seemed like half a turn in the other car equal, and ended up finishing 6th in the heat." Comments Johnson. "When i went out for the feature i had a little more feel for the car. I was running 4th and maybe could have passed a car but going through 1 and 2 i heard the motor pop, so i instantly looked at the tac and it read zero." says Johnson. "I pushed in the clutch and the motor just died." The team at DR Motorsports immediately thought it was an electrical problem killing the ignition to the motor. "We will just have to tinker with the coil and ignition box and see if that is the culprit." says Driver Johnson. The team plans on racing again at the nobles county speedway on July 25th pending a successful week of working on the car. "He went into the corner and all i heard was a bang." says Crew Chief Robert Barrie. Both crewman Robert and Jason Johnson thought Johnson had blew a tire. "I thought he blew out his right front tire." Says J. Johnson. "when he coasted to the exit and the motor wasn't running i knew we had bigger problems." Dalton, Jason, and Robert will be working vigorously to get the car back on track for next weekend. We will let you know the status of the car by friday and if we will be at the Nobles County Speedway sunday or not.
